Lincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller must defend himself against murder charges in the heart-stopping new thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly
.

A CBS The Doctors Book Club Pick

People Book of the Week Selection

On the night he celebrates a big win, defense attorney Mickey Haller is pulled over by police, who find the body of a former client in the trunk of his Lincoln. Haller is immediately charged with murder but can’t post the exorbitant $5 million bail slapped on him by a vindictive judge.

Mickey elects to represent himself and is forced to mount his defense from his jail cell in the Twin Towers Correctional Center in downtown Los Angeles. All the while he needs to look over his shoulder—as an officer of the court he is an instant target, and he makes few friends when he reveals a corruption plot within the jail.

But the bigger plot is the one against him. Haller knows he’s been framed, whether by a new enemy or an old one. As his trusted team, including his half-brother, Harry Bosch, investigates, Haller must use all his skills in the courtroom to counter the damning evidence against him.

Even if he can obtain a not-guilty verdict, Mickey understands that it won’t be enough. In order to be truly exonerated, he must find out who really committed the murder and why. That is the law of innocence.

In his highest stakes case yet, the Lincoln Lawyer fights for his life and proves again why he is “a worthy colleague of Atticus Finch... in the front of the pack in the legal thriller game” (Los Angeles Times).

Would have given 5 stars except for the trashing of my President Donald Trump as part of the story. No place for that in a book I purchase.
  • Liberal mouthpiece

Why does he have to alienate a big portion of his fan base by politicising his jury pick. You lost a big fan.
  • Good read

This was a very good read. I didn’t want to put it down very much. It kept drawing me back, so I could finish it. The only thing I didn’t like was the foul language in there. Why do some authors think they have to use F Bombs to get a point across? Also the childish shots at the President and his appointments were dumb. Why take a chance on alienating half of America?
  • A book for liberal democrats only

Say, according to the character, Mickey Haller, if you have a Trump sticker on your car, you are a liar because Trump is supposedly a liar, and therefore not worthy of jury duty. I wonder what the author thinks is so cool about insulting 75 percent of his customer base? Not the only political dig in the book either. Really disappointed in Connelly. What's more he has tainted my attitude toward buying any more of his stories. Too bad.

Not to worry he can run from Leavenworth and resume his unique style of governance from the big house not the white house in 2024.
  • Political views not needed

Liked the book, but a little thin on developing the defense case. Not one of his best. What was really irritating was the unnecessary insertion of the author’s political views. As a Trump supporter, I was insulted and I think I will not read Connelly again.

Like many recent Connelly books, this takes a while to get the plot going, but it builds nicely, and the last third hurtles along like a freight train. No one does courtroom material like Connelly. I was sorry when it was finished.
  • Love the story-didn’t appreciate the political comments

One of my favorite authors-but maybe no longer. His not-so-subtle progressive comments took away from what could have been a very enjoyable read. I’m saddened and disappointed.
  • Another one bites the dust

I hate that I wasted money on this book. Not only were the characters poorly developed and the plot not well done, the author chose to get political. If I wanted a political book, I would have bought one. I work in healthcare and have been battling the China virus since I left my home to go to NY. I’m tired of the fear mongering and read to get away from the political rhetoric and lies. I feel like I grew up with Harry Bosch & Mickey Haller. I’ll miss them, but I’ll never buy another Connelly book again. I’ll also be unsubscribing from his fan page. Shame on you.
